BUDE RATs running club members made the trip to Tavistock recently for the annual ’Tavy Town Relays’, which is held in and around the town and the athletics club.
Teams were made up of four runners, each having to run a 1.1-mile leg, before handing the baton over to the next club member.
With nearly 80 teams all setting off at once, the event has gained a reputation for fun but exciting racing at the same time, and has become a RATs favourite in recent years. So much so, that the club was able to send five teams to take part this year, including new members and some RATs running for the club for the first time.
Conditions for the evening relay were perfect, with runners coming from all over Devon and Cornwall to take part, which led to some fast times.
Thanks were expressed to Kiri Wilce who filled in at short notice and Clancy Lawrence who ran two relay legs for different RATs teams.
Money raised at the event, which is part of the town’s annual fair week, goes to the local Tavistock Lions charities.
