Trelawney Division One
Bude 2
Duchy 0
BUDE had a different line up this week as Robyn Pengilly and Leanne Stanbury started their first games for the club this season,
Duchy are a difficult team to break down they play very much like the home side fast passing and tenacious tackling.
Tammy Snowsill and Di Old held the midfield for Bude and they played balls out to both flanks trying to find an opening in the Duchy defence. Emily Shepherd’s runs down the wing and into the D were a constant worry to the left back as Emily Shepherd wormed her way into the D and she squared the ball to Rachel Pomeroy who easily slotted the ball past the keeper.
Duchy mounted attack after attack but Bude’s defence held firm — Cara Phillips, Robyn Pengilly, Chloe McGrath and Hannah Maloney thwarted their efforts and although they did get a short corner this was saved by the home keeper.
The tempo was fast and as Bude played with aplomb they stuck to the task and were rewarded when Erinne Bickle and Leanne Stanbury linked well and created chances Di Old hit a thunder bolt of a shot into the net.
Bude knew that Duchy would come out strong in the second half and that they would have to be on their game to repel the opposition, as the game ebbed and flowed Bude were wearing Duchy down and they were awarded a short corner, Becca Maloney came close with her shot being saved from the rebound Bude found the net but the goal was disallowed for a foul in the D.
The Bude team remained defiant to Duchy’s counter attacks with everyone making sure they were marking and making some excellent tackles to deny the visitors any goalscoring opportunities.
Duchy did force two saves out of the Bude keeper late on in the game but couldnt find the killer shot to put them back in the contest.
There is no game next week with Bude’s next game being a trip to Mannamead on Saturday, February 25.
