CORNWALL CRICKET

EDWARDS CUP FINAL

Calllington v St Just at Truro Wednesday

Callington's T20 adventure came to a prestigious end at Boscawen Park, Truro, but it was no disgrace to come second to the best Cornish T20 side over the last 20 years.

After electing to bat first on a sunny evening, Murray Workman hit two fours and a six before being bowled by the last ball of Gareth May's third over.

James Long and Joe White added 47 when Long snicked off to keeper Lawrence May off spinner Mark George.

White held the innings together, helped by a dozen from Aidan Libby, but runs were not coming fast enough to set the boys from Cape Cornwall a worrying target.

White remained unbeaten, on 38 from 50 balls, as Callington managed 115-5 from their 20 overs. George took 2-26 from 4.

Callington's bowlers knew that there was no room for error, and enjoyed early success when Jim Shorten bowled Cornwall's Neil Curnow for two in his first over.

Left hander Mark George and the evergreen Gary Thomas added 41 before George was judged leg before to Workman.

However, that was to be Callington's last success as Thomas and Justin Stephens steered St Just to a comfortable victory in the 17th over.

Stephens was 31 not out and Thomas, who was later awarded the man of the match trophy, remained on 53 in 47 balls which included 4 fours and 2 sixes.

St Just beat Callington by 8 wickets.
