LAUNCESTON Tae Kwon-Do were delighted to see two students receive their 1st Dan black belt certificates recently.

At their latest grading, the mother and son duo of Helen Wright and Tom Simpkins-Wright were presented with their certificates by the vice-chairman of the Tae Kwon-Do Association of Great Britain, Master Michael Dew, who is also an eighth degree black belt.

Club instructor, Paul Bunn, said: “This was an impressive achievement, demonstrating Helen and Tom’s practical ability in the art of tae kwon-do and a thorough knowledge of the theory. Helen has overcome many obstacles on her journey to obtain her black belt, including partial knee reconstruction. She has shown everyone what can achieved against the odds, nobody deserved receiving her black belt more than Helen, and all at Launceston Tae Kwon-Do were extremely proud and humbled as to what Helen has fulfilled.”

Launceston Tae Kwon-Do is a friendly group with members of all ages and abilities. They meet in the Old Hall at Launceston College from 6-7pm and 7-8pm on Mondays, and in the New Hall from 7-8pm and 8-9pm on Fridays.
