Bude Bridge Club monthly report and weekly round-up
February round-up
BUDE Bridge Club were sad to hear of the passing of one of their founding members, Jean Hemmerle.
Jean was a much-loved member, always cheerful and full of fun. She was an excellent card player and for many years developed a formidable partnership with Mary Hopgood. Jean will be greatly missed by all at the club.
Congratulations are in order for Alan Biggs and Rob Mabley who were part of the Cornwall B team that narrowly lost 11-9 against Somerset on February 4 and represented the Cornwall A team on February 18 when they comprehensively beat Avon 18-2.
Mary Hopgood and Noreen Heslop also had a great month as they won the February heat of the North Coast Wine Handicap Pairs.
Alan Biggs and Steve Clifton won the qualifying heat of the Club Championship pairs and the top eight pairs go forward to play in the final next Tuesday (March 14). Others attending will play for the Club Championship Plate, and the club would like to see some of the Wednesday afternoon regulars taking part.
Other winning partnerships on club evenings were Chris Nichols and Jane Koldeway who won twice, Bob and Ann Bennett, Stephen and Micheline Smith and Mary Hopgood and Noreen Heslop.
Wednesday afternoons continue to attract good attendances and winning partnerships during the month were Ian Curtis and Alan Merchant-White, who won twice, Chris Nichols and Peter Rosser, Ann Bennett and Maureen Fallows, Chris Skipp and Beryl Mardon, Ann Dawson and Gillian Jolley, Veronica Chouffot and Lindsey Sandilands and Stephen Smith and Kate Holding.
New members and visitors are always welcome. For information about the activities of Bude Bridge Club, visit www.bridgewebs.com/bude.
