WITH seventeen sailing dinghies, comprised of nine different classes, crossing the start line and a choice to be made as to whether to start on port or starboard tack, there was a good deal of congestion.
When the horn finally sounded, a lot of starboard boats called for priority over port ones.
The fleet of six Lasers soon asserted themselves, led by Jane Anderson’s Radial and with second, at the end of a brilliant first lap, Linda Spiller’s Full.
Third on the first lap, but second from then on, was James Pollard’s Full.
Jane Chadney (Radial) was fourth until Steve Axford (Full) overtook her. Steve who had rigging trouble, had decided that the only way he could get at it was to capsize the boat, before sorting the problem to calmly get himself up to fourth by the finish!
Three laps, with a force two north westerly, took the leaders around forty minutes.

Cup Six
THE wind had freshened for the afternoon race and James Pollard, never happy in light winds, took full advantage with a smashing start and led the race throughout.
Jane Anderson crossed the line third behind the fast starting Vicki Duncalf, and it took her some time to establish her second place.
She finished half a minute behind James but her Radial’s handicap gave her the victory.
Steve Axford was only sixth at the end of the first lap but had got himself to third by lap two and stayed there.
He was followed by Paul Anderson, having his first outing for ages and then by Linda Spiller, but their excellent finishing position on the water didn’t give them high scores.
Nathan Pollard got fourth and Vicki Duncalf fifth when the handicaps were calculated.
Meanwhile three new junior members from the Graham family crewed the club’s Rob Eason Bosun; welcome to them. Four laps, with a bit more wind than earlier, took the leaders around 40 minutes.
