BUDEHAVEN Sub-Aqua Club will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and will be doing so with a party planned for September. The club was formed in 1974 as a branch of the British Sub Aqua Club. Since that time, many local people have been introduced to the underwater world; more than 200 of whom have gone on to complete the relevant training and become qualified divers. As part of the local community the club has been active in many events such as junior snorkelling, including introducing over 150 under 12s to the delights of snorkelling; helping local fishermen recover trapped pots, nets and ropes; introducing baby lobsters back to the sea, in conjunction with the National Lobster Hatchery; recovering lost assets such as an old tub barge from the Bude Canal; acting as casualties during Bude RNLI Lifeboat Day demonstrations; providing safety cover for Bude Surf Life Saving Association National Championships; supporting the National Trust Water Sports activity day in Boscastle Harbour by offering a snorkelling experience to the general public; and on request, clearing areas of Bude Canal, Tamar Lake and Roadford Reservoir.
