BUDEHAVEN C missed the chance to close the gap on club rivals Budehaven B at the top of Division Two of the North Cornwall Table Tennis League as they lost 7-3 at Altarnun.

The home side had the luxury of picking their full strength side for the first time this season, and proved a bit too good as Paul Burden won all three of his outings with Alex Whitfield picking up two points and Geoff Hale one. Anthony Ward beat?Whitfield and Hale and pushed Burden in a five-set thriller while Andrew Ward also won once.

Whitstone Wanderers remain the only other team in the division yet to lose as they won 6-4 at Crackington C. The matches were tight throughout but Barry Stearman and skipper Doug Genini won all of their singles.

Robin Evans, Ross Paynter and Keiron Chatterjea all beat Rob Woodhouse in close encounters with the latter two winning the doubles.

North Hill B won the vital basement battle at Bridgerule A last Friday despite the best efforts of home skipper, Alan Quilter.

Quilter won all three of his singles but lacked support as Michael Kinger, Trevor Luckhurst and Dave Aplin all beat Ray Bewes and Jay Brewer to move five points clear off Bridgerule at the bottom.

With no games in Division One after Budehaven A’s trip to North Hill A was postponed, the rest of the action came in Division Three.

League leaders Budehaven E hammered in-form Helland C 5-0 while Budehaven F’s Ezra Jukes won his first ever match after more than a season of trying as he beat Bridgerule B’s Jimmy Rickett in four sets. Despite the win, they still lost 4-1.

Second-placed Crackington C kept the pressure up on Budehaven E as they won 5-0 at North Hill C.
