TIMON Chapman’s double proved to be in vein as Bude were defeated at Tavistock A, who, in the process, recorded their first victory of the season.

The North Cornwall side were looking forward to bouncing back from their 5-1 thrashing at Plympton Grammar School Old Boys as they took on the team at the bottom of the league.

After an even first five minutes, Bude created the first clearcut chance as they forced the home keeper into a good save. The rebound was fired back at goal but pinged off the post and was eventually cleared.

This miss changed the game as silly unforced errors starting creeping in, which allowed Tavistock to grow in confidence and they started applying some sustained pressure.

The pressure eventually told as Tavistock forced their way into the D and a simple strike squirmed past everyone and trickled into the net.

The game continued in the same vein for the next 15 minutes which allowed Tavistock to extend their lead with another simple goal that could have been avoided.

After regathering themselves at half-time and with a change of shape, Bude came out fighting but they were not able to capitalise until midway through the half when some simple passes allowed Timon Chapman to slot home from close range. Tavistock rallied to create a number of chances on goal but a superb defensive show by young Luke Self inspired the rest of the defence to stay strong and keep Bude in the game.

They eventually drew level when Chapman drove straight and hard through the middle of the pitch, ignoring the calls to play the simple pass he battled on and luckily the ball remained stuck to his stick from where he unleashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.

Shortly after drawing level, Tavistock delivered the killer blow as Bude’s marking went awry, allowing an overload of Tavistock players to push forward and a strike from the edge of the D whistled straight into the goal. Bude continued to push forward and despite a number of late chances to draw level, Tavistock held on to get their well deserved first win of the season to lift them off the bottom of the table while Bude remain in third place as the teams around them also struggled.

Third from bottom Bude fell to their second consecutive defeat as Plymouth Marjon seconds left Budehaven School with all three points.

Bude only managed to take nine down to league leaders Falmouth last week but had 14 players to choose from for this fixture, where they put in a much-improved display.

Marjon did take an early lead but the home side soon equalised when a fantastic strike from Cara Philips was brilliantly deflected in via Claire Pipe. Unfortunately, Plymouth Marjon scored just before half-time, a lead they kept for the rest of the game.

The second-half was again a fast paced affair with fantastic wide balls and switching across the pitch.

However, Marjon did extend their lead to move up to fourth while Bude are eighth in the ten-team division.
