ON the afternoon of Tuesday, March 19, members of Holsworthy Hamlets Parish Council gathered at the Youth Centre in Holsworthy to present a cheque for £1,000.

The funding was originally put aside by the hamlets for the Youth Council but with the Youth Council no longer existing, it was decided to round the sum up to £1,000 and donate to the Youth Club.

A parish council spokesperson said: “The councillors were there to present a cheque for £1,000 to the amazing volunteers who provide this facility twice a week, after school, for young people from Holsworthy and the surrounding rural area. The councillors were keen to contribute to the running costs of this valuable service.

“Several years ago the councillors had earmarked some money to help to fund a Youth Council, but since this project is no longer running, they wanted to use the money for an alternative youth orientated cause and the Youth Centre was considered to be such a worthy recipient that the councillors agree to top up the donation to £1,000.”

On the day parish council members were given an interesting tour of the facilities and were able to see the young people enjoying the wide range of activities which are on offer, from music making and computer games, to a quiet area for homework. The youngsters can also purchase a variety of food and drink provided on the premises.
