CAMELFORD Young Farmers’ Club’s junior tug of war team, having qualified at Hartbury College to be the south west area representative, travelled to the Tenbury Show in Hereford on August 1.
They took their place among ten other of the best teams in the UK. Camelford competed against junior teams including Cumbria, Gwent, Worcestershire, Derbyshire, Wiltshire, Herefordshire, Brecknock, Bedfordshire and Gloucestershire.
They were encouraged by a mini bus load of committed supporters who had travelled up the night before or early in the morning.
The team consisted of Billy Nankivell, Sam Thomas, Dan Gillbard, Nathan Wickett, Anna Cornelius, Beth Cole, Jo Sandercock, Jack Kendall and Owen Pengelly, sadly Alfie Gillbard could not pull but was there to support the team.
After a strenuous competition Camelford came joint fifth.
Alfie Cornelius, the coach, said: “I’m really proud of the youngsters, it was a real achievement to represent the south west area at national level. They’ve all trained very hard and have been a pleasure to coach.”
