THE Bridge Mill in Bridgerule hosted a hedge event during half term week in support of Devon Hedge Year.

Green wood craftsmen were on hand to demonstrate the range of useful goods that can be made from hedgerow materials, including hurdles, besom brooms, hay rakes and furniture.

Site owner Alan Beat led visitors around the smallholding to see layed hedges and coppiced woodland at various stages of regrowth, plus a hedge laying demonstration by volunteers from the Bridgerule hedge and coppice group.

Meanwhile, his wife, Rosie, led children on a scavenger hunt to find clues and solve natural puzzles around the hedgerows.

Refereshments were served and all donations were given to the Long House appeal.
