A NINE-YEAR-OLD girl has decided to have her long hair cut for charity this summer.

After finding out recently that a family member has cancer, Izabel McDonnell, from Launceston, researched ideas for fundraising.

Through her research she found out about the Little Princess Trust, and will donate some of her hair to the charity, which provides real hair wigs for children suffering hair loss.

Izabel’s mother, Kerry Holland, said: “It was totally her own decision. She looked into it and found that charity.

“I’m incredibly proud of her. She’s so young. She’s come up with this all by herself.

“She’s got a little notebook that she writes things down in — such as her £1,000 target.”

Kerry said her daughter has always had her hair long: “She is not doing the sponsored cut until July — she just wanted it to grow that bit further.

“She’s not going to have it shaved off but it will be considerably different. It’s a big thing for her.”

Izabel said: “I’m going to be cutting my hair for the Little Princess Trust to raise money for them. They are going to make it into a wig and with the money I raise they will make wigs as well.

“I’m nervous and looking forward to it! I want to grow my hair a lot longer to raise more money and make more wigs.”

Monica Glass, charity manager at Little Princess Trust, said: “We are all amazed that someone as young as Izabel wishes to do so much for others.

“Not only will her beautiful hair form part of a wig for a poorly child, the amount that she hopes to raise by the summer will also allow the charity to purchase a further three real hair wigs for other children.

“Good luck with growing your hair Izabel and with your fundraising! Thank you so much!”
