Four counties — Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset — took to the stage at the Hall for Cornwall on March 5, and each county truly entertained the sold-out theatre.
Launceston’s Young Farmers impressed at the county finals in January with their singing act ‘After Glow’ and Bake Off sketch, ‘Soggy Bottom’ — these acts went forward to the county team, with the first performance at Truro’s Hall for Cornwall on Sunday, March 5 in the entertainment final.
Cornwall YFC claimed first place, and will now go through to the Southern area competitions, which will take part in Cheltenham on Sunday, March 19.
Launceston YFC chairman Amy Trehane, who was part of the Cornwall team, said: “There was lots of support from Cornwall — families and other members.”
Cat Ede, Callington YFC and county vice-chairman, was placed 2nd in the senior member of the year category — first place went to chairman of Devon YFC Claire Bellew.
Members from Camelford Young Farmers came second in the cheerleading competition and third in netball, and Hollie Cornelius and Ashleigh Babb stunned the crowd with their beautiful aerial silks act and will be off to Cheltenham with the county team.
Camelford YFC’s Katie Gill said: “Everyone had a fantastic time over the weekend competing and enjoying the parties with Radio 1 DJ Chris Stark.”
The overall weekend winners were Devon YFC, while Cornwall YFC were placed 2nd for overall non-sports trophy and 3rd for overall sports trophy.
