HOLSWORTHY'S Memorial Hall was turned into a restaurant last Saturday morning (October 19), where a dozen children from Holsworthy Primary School, neatly dressed in white aprons and caps, and with a little help from some teaching assistants, served lunch to 100 people.

There were two sittings and on the menu were beef stew and dumplings followed by apple and blackberry crumble. The event was the brainchild of Holsworthy's Mayor, Cllr John Allen who the previous day had taken the children to Waitrose to choose the ingredients, then on to Blagdon Manor Hotel, Ashwater, where they spent the day in the kitchen and restaurant helping to prepare the meal with the chef, Steve Morey and his wife Liz.

While waiting to serve coffee and tea, 10-year-olds Haley Shadrick and Stefanie Fors-Wills and 11-year-old Juanita Ridgeman said they had enjoyed helping to cook the meal. They often helped mum or went to the cooking club at school and, any way, beef stew was one of their favourite meals.
