RESIDENTS in Bridgerule ensured the part the village played in the Great War would not be forgotten when they hosted a major event last Sunday. People searched for their treasured war items handed down from great grandparents and other relatives so that on Sunday morning there were 21 groups of treasured keepsakes kindly loaned for display at the village hall in the 'Not Forgotten' event. A report in the Post asking for any relatives connected to the men on Bridgerule war memorial to get in touch resulted in Rita Cave from Weymouth supplying information for the event. Her great grandfather was Arthur Petherick, who served in the 2nd Devons. And Joan Vickery from Paignton had an uncle, Pte Henry Blackmore, who served in the Great War and she supplied some family history for the event. The hall was decorated and with poppies and with Flanders poppies on each table, and many people came to see and learn about lives spent in the trenches and all kinds of items, ranging from Mills bombs, letters sent home from the front, medals, badges, postcards and helmets.
