A PENALTY to draw or a try to win? In the dying minutes the Cornish All Blacks had to make this decision and opted to go for the win. They kicked to the corner but didn't score from a catch and drive due to a knock-on and Clifton cleared from the ensuing scrum.

In an entertaining encounter each team scored two tries.

The All Blacks began with a surge of attacks and number 8, Mike Rawlings, raced all of 25 yards and what looked a certain score failed because of an unsuccessful final pass.

The visitors went ahead in the third minute when Lewitt kicked the first of his three penalties.

Two minutes later Clifton levelled with a penalty from fly half Gareth Knox who was to beat Lewitt's tally with four goals.

Mike Rawlings was sin binned for not rolling away and this was the spur for Clifton to take the initiative.

At the end of the first quarter flanker Tom Poole went over for the first home try after Clifton had broken from half-way and produced some good inter-passing. Poole went in under the post to give Knox an easy conversion.
