The Bude community marked World Animal Free Research Awareness Day on May 27 in style, with several businesses joining in.

Local businesses taking part included Banfords, Bellini’s Deli Kitchen, Bude Health Store, Bude Morrisons, Gifts of Bude, House of Chaplin, Just Gentz, Roots Lounge, Trev’s Taxi, Widemouth Bay Café and on the Saturday, an event was held at Camel Creek Family Theme Park.

Morrisons’ customer service manager Katie Shaw and People Team and Community Champion Holly Mellett were tasked with the very difficult job of choosing the winners of the colouring competition.

There were lots of entries and all to a high standard.

A spokesperson said: “Well done everyone who entered. Congratulations to winners JB, Jana and O.B and runners up Zoe, Mia and Clemence.

“Individual prizes have been collected by the schools concerned and school representatives were also delighted with their hamper of gardening goodies donated by Morrisons.”

Community Champion Steph Jones-Giles added: “It was an excellent day and we are so very grateful to all 11 businesses for so generously giving the space to raise the profile of this amazing charity.

“Each business had creative ideas and it was lovely to see a sea of turquoise across Bude showing we truly are ‘united for a kinder science’.

“Special thanks to Bude Morrisons management and staff for hosting us for the week. We’re looking forward to 2023 already.”
