MUSIC and textile workshops are to be held by Endelienta in Camelford to help stimulate memories for those living with memory problems.

Creative activities such as music and crafts not only bring enjoyment but can also re-energise the mind and bring back memories. Unfortunately, it is a fact of life that, as many people live longer, more people also experience the challenge of remembering.

In response to this, arts charity Endelienta, well know for its music programme at St Endellion, is launching ‘Music and Memories’. A series of creative workshops to support people in North Cornwall living with dementia, their carers, and others who have less opportunity to share their memories.

The project is supported by Awards for All, Camelford Town Council and Wadebridge Town Council.

The workshops will take place on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in Camelford, Bodmin and Wadebridge, and will start with a special ‘Cake Concert’ by musicians of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, who are on tour in Cornwall. This concert will take place on Tuesday, February 12, from 2.45pm, at the Betjeman Centre in Wadebridge, and is for participants in all three communities.

The workshops in the following weeks will be led by artist Janie McDonald. Janie will help all participants to weave and stitch their memories into colourful textile artworks.

The workshops are also about meeting people and making friends. Anyone who may be feeling lonely, isolated and missing the opportunity to share memories with others is welcome. No previous creative experience is needed.
