WORK is underway to ensure zig zag lines outside of schools are enforceable, Launceston Town Council heard at its meeting last month.
Liberal Democrat Cornwall Councillor for Launceston Central Gemma Massey said, at the council meeting on May 16, that Cornwall Council is ‘redoing’ zig zag lines, adding: “More importantly, putting up proper metal signage that will state what the law is.”
Town councillor John Conway said: “Great news on the zig zags. We look forward to tickets being given to some people who are stupid enough to park there.”
A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: “We have been going around ensuring that the zig zag lines that are outside schools are enforceable.
“In most cases we are repainting them and putting up an adjacent sign. We are doing that across the county.
“Zig zags are there to ensure safety of the children and pedestrians in the immediate vicinity of the school. We would respectfully ask people not to park on them.”
These will be enforceable by the end of March 2018, the spokesperson added, with works already carried out at Post area schools including Altarnun, North Petherwin, St Joseph’s, St Stephen’s, Trekenner and Gunnislake.
