WITH building work on North Devon Hospice's new outreach facility in Holsworthy due to start soon, staff from the town's hospital have praised the impact the charity has had in the area.

The new building, The Long House, will offer a range of support for patients and families affected by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses in Holsworthy and surrounding areas.

There will be no beds at the building, with the emphasis on providing a comforting environment where patients and families can be supported emotionally throughout their illness.

Ward sister at Holsworthy Hospital Gillian Piper said that by working together with the hospice, they are able to provide the best possible care to local patients: "For many years we have worked side-by-side with Annie Hogg and Kath Howarth, the two North Devon Hospice community nurses who work in this area.
