PEOPLE in the Camelford area are encouraged to get involved and volunteer with the town’s new climate change action plan.

Camelford’s community link officer, Tina McGrath, told the meeting of the area’s network panel on Tuesday, January 28 that the Camelford Network Area Climate Change Action Plan had been looking into ways of encouraging the town to be more environmentally conscious.

She said: “You may remember at the Camelford AGM in June, we set our priorities and climate change was one of those. On the back of that, we established a small working group and it was difficult to think, what can we do and what resources do we have to do this?

“We pulled together a draft action plan. We set that out to all the town and parish councils across the network — unfortunately only four responded. So we cracked on with those four councils and we based them on the themes we had come up with.”

On a presentation, Ms McGrath explained that the working group’s main themes were green spaces, food consumption and mapping sites for growing food, energy and transport and tourism.

The team aim to work with local schools to look into introducing more green spaces; while also looking at how viable a repair cafe would be for the area, along with mapping allotment sites for growing food.

They are going to look at holding an energy saving pop-up surgery and potentially combine this with the town’s annual Four Days of Fun event in the summer, where volunteers could sign up to help the action group.

For tourism, there is the possibility of a dark skies event, with the stunning landscape of Bodmin Moor on the town’s doorstep having a Dark Sky Landscape status.
