MARHAMCHURCH Village Shop is well on the way to becoming a vibrant and important community asset.
It was reported to social media followers on Friday, July 27 that there is ‘very exciting news’ for the village after the team behind Marhamchurch village shop’s Facebook page announced the new developments taking place to provide local people and visitors alike with a vibrant community shop.
It was announced that works are starting to build the new shop at the centre of the village, replacing what used to be a run-down public toilet block. Along with the construction of the shop, a new public convenience will also be added to the development. Once the dismantlement of the old toilet block is undertaken, this will make way for new pipeworks, drains and other vital foundations.
A spokesperson from the project said: “With the new build underway, we hope that our volunteers, fundraisers and shareholders will be heartened with the realisation that our plans are at last coming to fruition and all of our hard work is finally paying off.
“We also trust that the site of our shop being centred in such a prominent position will encourage many more villagers and supporters to come forward to either volunteer to help in some capacity, buy shares, or assist in generating much-needed capital.”
The shop’s current temporary position at the back of the Bray Institute in Marhamchurch will be improved with a new, modern building and a site especially developed for its purpose as a community asset.
