NEW facilities for disabled people and extra storage space for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) are being installed at the Summerleaze Beach toilets in Bude.
Work will start on Monday (January 17) on the project which will see a range of improvements including new external showers for the building at the popular North Cornwall beach.
Cornwall Council's Environment Service has been working with the RNLI on the innovative scheme.
The improvements were initially sparked by an approach from the RNLI looking for additional storage space for their lifesaving equipment. Initial designs suggested an expansion of the charity's lifeboat station but led to concerns at the further loss of the adjacent sand dune.
