THE Jacobstow Women’s Institute celebrated its 85th anniversary in style on August 10 at Jacobstow Parish Hall.

With flowers, bunting and cake stands to the fore, 30 members, past members and guests spent a lovely afternoon catching up with their WI friends.

President Jill Baker took those present back to 1938 when the group was formed, looking at the changes and similarities of the group’s membership and activities then and now — fun and friendship continuing to be very much a part of WI life.

A spokesperson said: “In the best traditions of the WI, members prepared a superb afternoon tea, with plenty of savouries, cakes and desserts for everyone.

“It was all together a fitting celebration.”
