THE St Giles Women’s Guild held its summer fete recently in aid of Parkinson’s UK.

The fete was opened by Marian Humphries from the Launceston branch, who gave a short talk about the charity. She was presented with a buttonhole by Dexter Allin, grandson of guild member Jean Allin.

There were many different stalls selling cakes and preserves, groceries, plants, bric-a-brac, books, a tombola, raffle and a find the treasure game devised by member Esther Thorne. Afternoon tea was also served with savouries and cakes.

The fete raised £528, which included some generous donations. With money from a raffle at the new year lunch and bring and buy sale earlier in the year the total amount is £630 to be donated to the charity.

Marian was delighted to be invited to open the fete and accompanied by her family said: “We all had a very enjoyable afternoon especially trying all the lovely cakes and what an amazing amount of money was raised. Thank you so much for your support of Parkinson‘s UK charity this year and your very generous donation.”

Guild secretary, Trish Shanks, said: “It is a fantastic amount to raise for such a worthwhile charity. A big thank you to all members, helpers and everyone who came along and supported us, it was a huge success.”
