The Women’s Centre Cornwall (TWCC) in Bodmin has been named Cornwall Council ‘Charity of the Year’ in a bid to let more people know about the vital support it offers.

Chosen by Cornwall Council chairman Pauline Giles for ‘being inspirational’, the charity provides specialist support to women and girls across Cornwall who have experienced sexual violence and/or domestic abuse. In the last year, referrals to The Women’s Centre Cornwall have increased by 30% but there are many more who would benefit from the organisation’s support. As such the partnership aims to boost awareness among those living with the impact of abuse as well as with professional referral organisations, business supporters and local communities.

Based in Bodmin and covering all corners of the county, TWCC offers holistic, non-judgmental and empowering support through a confidential helpline, one-to-one and group sessions and through local communities. The charity also hosts an online forum, and building on its success, recently launched a first-of-its-kind Campfire app which invites women living with the impact of sexual or domestic abuse to join an online community and feel a sense of togetherness, hopefully diluting the silencing nature of abuse.
