Police were called to a property at Stoke Climsland, after concern was raised for the welfare of a woman of the property on Monday. Officers attended the property around 1pm and discovered the body of a woman.

A man with serious injuries was also found at the property and was then taken to hospital for treatment.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained and police, along with the ambulance and air ambulance were all in attendance.

Following a forensic examination of the scene — which was ongoing as the 'Post' went to press — police confirmed at the time that they were not looking for any other person.

A 65-year-old man was under police guard at the hospital where he was receiving treatment. The deceased woman has not yet been formally identified.

A police spokesman said: "The death is currently being treated as unexplained, as are how the man came to be injured. This is a very early stage in this enquiry and we have not had the opportunity to speak with the injured man at this time as he is undergoing hospital treatment.

"We are currently in the process of examining the scene of the incident and the results of that will help us start to build up a picture of what took place today. Until we speak to the injured man we will not have a clearer picture of what occurred."
