THE Post has teamed up with the organisers of The Masked Ball, which takes place at Porthleven from May 20 to 22, to offer one reader the chance to win a pair of weekend tickets with camping.
The Masked Ball has already unveiled its biggest line-up to date ahead of its ‘decade of decadence’ tenth anniversary edition next month which sees 2ManysDJs, Groove Armada and Basement Jaxx headline — but these stellar acts only provide the soundtrack for what is essentially a no-holds-barred party with pizzazz, perched on a Cornish cliff top.
Over the past ten years the group of friends behind the festival calendar’s funkiest and freakiest event have let their imaginations run riot, sending revellers on immersive adventures where senses are dazzled. The ball is a cornucopia of creativity and the multitude of individually-themed venues, together with the crowd itself, are as much the stars of the show as the headliners.
This year, ‘ballers’ are cordially invited to attend a soiree at ‘The Manor’— a colonial-style mansion that is home to the most demented and debauched members of the aristocracy. These landed gentry, who prove there truly is low life in high society, will be hosting three diverse days and nights of Cornish chaos — including a long table dinner, the ‘ball’ itself and the most surreal village fete ever staged.
This wicked weekender begins with ‘Feast Friday’ — a dinner and disco, featuring a sumptuous spread of Cornish cuisine to be held in The Manor’s red-carpeted and chandeliered Grand Ball Room, with its sensational views over Mount’s Bay. Attendees can then burn off the calories on the dancefloor.
‘Celebration Saturday’ sees ballers dress up, get down and go wild as they explore the maze-like Manor’s multiple ’rooms’.
This centre-piece to the weekend will be co-headlined by the mighty Groove Armada and eclectic selectors 2ManyDJs, whilst purveyor of ‘Good Times’, the legendary Norman Jay, will deliver a masterclass in turntablism for partygoers seeking an injection of funk, soul and jazz.
On ‘Survivor Sunday’ The Manor will host a Village Fete in the afternoon, featuring pig racing, veg bowling, a coconut shy and slippy-slide — plus live performances from comedians and theatre acts, before headliners Basement Jaxx close the festival with a DJ set during the night.
All of this only scratches the surface of the mayhem, magic and madness that is the Masked Ball — an event where discovering the unexpected is part of the experience.
