DOG fouling has become a major concern for Holsworthy within Stanhope Park and surrounding areas.
The town council is urging dog walkers to pick up their dogs’ mess to keep Stanhope Park clean and safe for young people — or, they warn, Stanhope Park will become a ‘dog free zone’.
The town council has confirmed that Torridge District Council will prosecute any offenders that have been seen, with evidence, not picking up their dog’s mess.
Mayor of Holsworthy, Jon Hutchings, said: “Unfortunately, if this problem persists and dog owners do not comply, there is a possibility that Stanhope Park will become a ‘dog free zone’ where the community can enjoy the play area and sports facilities without the fear of a child falling, stepping or coming into contact with dog faeces.
“It would be a shame for a few to ruin it for others as I’m sure there are many people who use Stanhope Park responsibly who eventually may not be able to use the area because of other irresponsible dog owners behavior!”
Dog fouling incidents in Stanhope Park or the surrounding area can be reported online to the district council at www.torridge.gov.uk/forms/environmentaql/dogfouling.dogfouling
Alternatively, people can complete a form, with detailed information, which can then be passed to the district council for their environmental team to consider court action.
