IT was not until the 1911 census was released that I discovered that my father, Stanley Charles Bryant (born 1901), and his brother Archibald were orphaned in 1907 and sent from Bristol to be fostered in Wigpool by a collier and his wife – Edward and Lucy Young (nee Trigg).

They attended Drybrook school under headmaster George Herbert Bryant and his assistant James George Bryant whose daughter Gwyneth Bryant married Edwin Harper in 1923.

Gwyneth is the only one of my Bryant relations I ever met (way back in  1935) In 1936 my mother, Dr Ivy Eunice (nee Tanner) separated from my father after giving birth to four children in rapid succession.

He was tragically killed in a car crash in 1937 and the four of us were kept completely in the dark about our Bryant relations.

We did not   know  the names of our grandparents or whether they were alive or dead.

It turned out that my grandfather Walter died in 1907 aged 37 and my grandmother Annie (nee Hancock) had run away to Canada.

The 1911 census not only revealed the whereabouts of my father and his brother Archibald Francis but also that some of my relatives, including Gwyneth Bryant, came from   the Forest of Dean and others from Bristol.

Is there anyone out there who knows anything about, or is related  to, Gwyneth who married Edwin F Harper?

Or is there anyone who is related to headmaster George Herbert Bryant or has his family tree.
