THE president of Bude WI, Cynthia May, welcomed 79 members and two visitors to their most recent meeting.
After singing Jerusalem, she thanked Carol Sparham for producing the 2018/19 programme. She then went on to introduce the new committee and explain their various roles.
This year is Bude’s 95th year and members are trying to do 95 challenges, which vary from doing a skydive to learning a new skill. Seventeen members are going on the zip wire at the Eden Project as part of this challenge. There will also be a 95-mile walk in June and members can walk from a quarter of a mile to as much as then can manage. Two members are working out various routes that members can take. Members were also made aware of various events that county have organised.
The speaker for the evening was David Ramsden, who gave a very interesting talk on the work of the Barn Owl Trust. He covered the reasons for the decline of barn owls due to the loss of habitat. Members were then invited to ask questions during the tea break.
A vote of thanks was given by Margaret Burch.
After tea there was a parade of Easter bonnets for the monthly competition — 1, Roz Sykes; 2, Sylvia Hambly; 3, Cynthia May. The flower of the month was won by Jenny Dabbs, joint second Mary Robinson and Margaret Burch, third Anne Denton.
