THE Holsworthy Rubies Women’s Institute hosted a 5th anniversary ‘Tea Party’ on March 30 at the Holsworthy Memorial Hall.

Edwina Williams, secretary, said: “We were lucky enough to be awarded a grant from the Devon Community Unity ‘Let’s Do It’ fund, to host this event, as we wanted to bring the community together and encourage closer bonds within the local groups.

“Local community groups were invited to run a free stall, where they could advertise their group and fundraise for themselves.”

The WI offered free refreshments and cakes, etcetera, to all that attended, along with various other stalls such as a raffle, Mother’s Day presents and a tea cup game.

The WI also invited the Arscott Ladies to sing at the event, which was enjoyed by everyone.

Nicki Why, vice president, added: “The event was well attended, and the Holsworthy Rubies raised £90 from refreshments donations, which we will donate to The Long House appeal; and £183 from our other stalls, which are both fantastic amounts.”

The Holsworthy Rubies Women’s Institute is a small, but thriving group, who meet every third Monday evening of the month — except in August.
