SLOWLY, information about the sorry state of affairs at County Hall and North Cornwall District Council is slipping beneath the veil drawn by our present councillors but they are taking up their 'vote winning' poses and suddenly engaging the public again.
Perhaps we should make a note of the questions to ask in case we bump into one: How did you work out the savings/costs of the unitary authority as so many crucial are undecided? Adam Paynter clearly feels that councillors' pay is the foremost issue but all the other employees awaiting news of if or where they will work may disagree.
Similarly, the structure from parish to town to county council has not been put into place, but then the boundaries were not deemed worthy of priority either.
Did you use the same accounting when costing the county council newspaper which you argue costs us nothing yet only carries a couple of job vacancies? It isn't even printed in Cornwall to provide jobs here.
We have some posters about the change but where is the information necessary to use services? What will happen to planning notifications, for example? Do you truly believe you have served the county well in your running of Newquay Airport? About £500,000 just to transport passengers, perhaps as much as £6 million lost to the economy.
In fact, your running of anything has been questionable with resident against resident as issues as sewage, waste management, wind farms and more have been poorly managed or fudged. As soon as the going has got tough, you have run for cover.
Were you warned about the dangers of investing in Icelandic banks, what was the total in these accounts and how much will the people of Cornwall ever see again? The Audit Commission has criticised the council, the fire service is in disarray, you appear to be selling off the county's assets to make ends meet and are more interested in maintaining your own jobs than those of your population. So why should we vote for you again?
Bude.
