The following is a copy of a letter to Mr. Payne, leisure services manager at Pembrokeshire County Council.
Sir, In January, I was 13 and was able to become a Teen member, so I joined Pembroke Leisure Centre and paid £13 a month. We have had a letter saying from April the prices will go up to £16.50 a month. I pay for this membership with my pocket money, so I was not very happy when the price went up £3.50 a month, that is £42 a year, which for me is a lot of money. You see on the television and magazines about child obesity and encouraging children to do more exercise and keeping fit, but why do you charge so much for the ones who want to get fit in the first place? Children up to age 16 should surely be free or a lot cheaper than £16.50 a month to use the facilities in our sports centres. I look forward to hearing from you and how you can help the children in this county.
Cerys Adams,
Cresselly.
