YEAR 4 pupils from St Stephens Academy in Launceston recently performed an excellent adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Class 4 teacher, Mrs Kari Gilbert, said: “It went really well, there were lots of parents that came along to watch. The children have definitely become a lot more interested in drama. Because it was the anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, we logged onto a programme with the BBC, which did workshops with the children on Shakespeare.”

This clearly helped the pupils understand Shakespeare’s motives with performance, as the class took their piece to the Barbican Theatre.

Mrs Gilbert said the children are now a lot more in tune with mature theatre, and the experience has made the pupils a lot more confident after their performance at the Barbican.
