THERE will be fireworks for the Queen in Bude this April to celebrate her 90th birthday, it was decided at a meeting of Bude-Stratton Town Council’s heritage and culture committee last week.

Promotions, marketing and events officer Andrew Morgan told councillors he had obtained a quote from fireworks company ‘Skyburst’, which is based in Bristol, to put on a display on behalf of the council at a cost of approximately £2,000.

Skyburst is the same company that put on the impressive fireworks displays for the Bude RNLI Day.

Mr Morgan said at the meeting in the Parkhouse Centre last Thursday that he had not looked into other fireworks companies yet but it seemed from talking to others that, for what the council would be getting for their money, the Skyburst quote is a good price.

He added: “For £2,000 we get their expertise; they’ll set everything up and obviously make sure everything is safe etc. It is obviously weather-dependant so I’ll look into the options if the display wasn’t able to go ahead for that reason.”

As well as the fireworks display to mark the Queen’s birthday on April 21, there will also be the lighting of the beacon.

All committee members were in favour of both going ahead and instructed Mr Morgan to proceed with the planning.

The exact location of the firework display is yet to be confirmed. Councillors highlighted that their preferred location for the display would be on the Downs, but it will be decided officially after a site visit from the fireworks display team and once the application to hold the event is submitted to Cornwall Council.
