THE annual Poundstock Gildhouse Craft Fair and Pumpkin Festival was held on Saturday, October 26.

Despite the atrocious weather when organisers set up on Friday afternoon and opened on Saturday morning, including one of the stall holders being unable to get to Poundstock due to roads flooding, it was eventually a very successful weekend with income of over £800 for the Gildhouse equalling last year’s event.

With several new stall holders plus old favourites, there was a wide variety of crafts on sale including artwork in several different forms including clothing, wood turned and crafted items, poetry, jewellery and much more.

For those wanting food items, homemade preserves, chocolate, and cakes were available to buy along with refreshments and light lunches provided by Gildhouse volunteers.

The tombola run by and on behalf of the church was particularly successful, beating all previous records to raise over £300.

A festival spokesperson said: “We had concerns about how many pumpkins would turn up due to the difficult growing conditions this year, but were happily greeted with an excellent selection in all classes which resulted in joint winners in the children’s section.”

Competition winners were as follows:

Heaviest pumpkin 1st: Cassie Cannon — 52kg; 2nd: Ross Paynter — 31.5kg; 3rd: Liz Jones — 15.5kg.

Adult carved pumpkin 1st: Tess Knight; 2nd: Delphia’s Granny; 3rd: Jen Spettigue.
