FOLLOWING the recent road safety petition plus voting on a survey of 15 suggested pedestrian crossing sites in Launceston organised by the Launceston Road Safety Partnership (LRSP) over 400 forms were returned.

The results of the survey were discussed at the last meeting of LRSP. The vote resulted in a tie for third place. LRSP had originally decided to push for the top three, but in light of the results are now backing the four sites that people of Launceston had chosen.

The top 4 are:

1, Western Road

2, Newport Traffic Lights

3, Crossing by the White Horse

4, Westgate Street, Livingston's to Westgate pub.

It was proposed to ask Cornwall Council for a Pelican crossing at Western Road.

A Pelican crossing and a filter lane to be installed at Newport Traffic Lights.

For White Horse and Westgate Street a zebra crossing was suggested.

The LRSP are looking for support from the Launceston Town Council and the Chamber of Commerce plus our Cornwall Council Councillors.

The Launceston Road Safety Group meet regularly and consult with Town Council, Police, Highways and Cornwall Council.

LRSP is open to anyone with an interest in road safety matter in and around town. For more information please contact Jacki Ellis-Martin on 01566 774902 or email [email protected]">[email protected].
