PUPILS in Class One at Werrington Primary School are currently studying 'People Who Help Us' as a topic, and have had three exciting experiences connected with vets and animals.
Last week, the children were visited by Bernadette Lewis (a veterinary nurse and puppy socialiser at the Glebe Veterinary Practice, Lezant) and Matty one of the 'hearing dogs' which she helps train.
The children heard all about Bernadette's job and Matty's training and had great fun watching Matty play.
Following this, the pupils visited the Castle Veterinary Practice at Pennygillam, Launceston, where they met Mark Tucker and had an in depth tour of the practice — meeting staff and finding out about what happens 'behind the scenes.'
The children are now replicating their experiences back at school in the role play area, which is now a vet surgery.
The school has also had a 'Bring Your Pet to School' afternoon!
Lots of parents and carers brought in the children's pets for everyone to see, including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs a hamster and a tortoise.
Everyone enjoyed the experience and we thank all the parents and carers for giving their time to the project.
