OVER one hundred members and supporters, of the Launceston Male Voice Choir, travelled to witness a very successful concert tour at Wells Cathedral in Somerset.
The choir was invited to perform an afternoon concert in the magnificent Wells Cathedral.
The Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew, more commonly known as Wells Cathedral, is an Anglican cathedral in Wells, Somerset.
They specially chose eight pieces to perform for the occasion including The White Rose, which was mostly sung in Cornish and received a rapturous applause from the large audience who filled the entire cathedral nave.
Some of those in the audience had travelled from as far away as London and Worcester in order to hear the choir perform.
Chairman of the Launceston Male Voice Choir Brian Jennings said: “Undoubtedly, the highlight of the concert was when Cassie Jane, who is the daughter of one of the choir members, joined the choir to sing the old favourite ‘Morte Christe’ which received prolonged applause and a standing ovation.”
At the interval the audience were enthralled with a recital by Jonathan Mann on the Great Organ, which filled the whole cathedral with sound.
This event was said to have eclipsed anything the choir had attempted before and was a great showcase of talent from Launceston and the surrounding areas.
The complete music team, of director John Beare, deputy Jonathan Mann and accompanist Carole Baker, were also congratulated on the day for their leadership in this event.
On the same day, the Launceston Male Voice Choir joined with the Cheddar Male Choir to present an evening concert in St Cuthburt’s Church, Wells, for another enthusiastic ‘sell-out’ audience.
The concert was raising funds for the cancer charity Children’s Hospice South West — this is one of Cornwall and Launceston’s chosen charities.
The evening concert managed to raise a total of £1,000 for the charity.
Both choirs sang individual pieces and then the hundred plus choristers joined together, and Cassie Jane once again joined the choirs, for an emotive rendition of Morte Christe.
Those who attended the concert all agreed that the choir is a great ambassador for every segment of life in Cornwall and West Devon. It raises, not only the local profile, but also supports so many good local causes.
