BARBARA Thorn (neé Harvey) celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends recently.

She ran the salon ‘Barbara Harvey’ in Holsworthy for many years employing a large number of girls, one of which now owns the salon.

During her time at the salon, Barbara used to employ three girls at a time and she was able to watch their talents flourish.

At her party, she was joined by a hairdresser she first employed and the last three employed when she retired.

She retired around 35 years ago and moved to Bideford where she was born. She still lives in her own bungalow with the support of carers and her niece.

Barbara married Eustice Thorn, known as ‘Sandy,’ whose family still live in the Holsworthy area.

A celebration to mark the occasion of her 100th birthday was held at the Commodore Hotel in Instow, and was attended by family and friends. Barbara was also delighted to receive a birthday card from the Queen.
