I REFER to the proposed development at Binhamy Farm, between Stratton and Bude on 65 acres of prime farmland, by the Catesby Property Group. The many people in both towns who object to this development are not averse to building in moderation, this is inevitable and is going on in both towns as I write, but we do object to a mini-town, the size of Stratton, taking up all the green fields between our two towns.
This vast development cannot be an extension to either town, it would have an entity in its own right, what would Catesby suggest calling it? 'Bratton' or 'Strude' perhaps to link it to our present towns. I do hope the planning committee on March 3 will take note of the matters brought up in letters opposing, and at the site meeting on February 12, when Catesby made it obvious that they do not understand Cornwall or the people who live here.
We care about our county, and the area that we live in, unlike the developers whose only interest is making as much money as possible for their company and shareholders, and who hang on the government's coat tails to justify marauding the countryside in this beautiful county, by covering it with concrete and tarmac.
Yes, they make facile comments about improving things for communities and providing affordable houses, but if they are so concerned why is the percentage of affordable houses so small compared with the overall number.
This development, in my opinion, is absolutely appalling, and as a dear old Cornish friend of mine would have said "us don' wan' em' boy!"
Stratton.
