Less than a year since its launch, Friends of St. Teilo's School is delighted to announce its fundraising project Play for Life has reached the target for Phase 1.
"It's been a very busy year fundraising, but thanks to all the hard work from everyone, a staggering £12,300 has been raised! When we started last September with the gala dinner and grand prize draw, we never could have imagined we would raise this amount of money in nine months!" said Nicole Ferguson, chair of the Friends of St. Teilo's.
The money raised means that Phase 1 will proceed after the half-term holidays. This will include the complete re-development of Class 1 playground, providing a safe and fun, all weather play area, which includes an all weather surface (no more mud!) with an adventure trail, including wobble board, zig-zag stepper, clatter bridge and even a loudspeaker!
Mrs. Angela Nicholls, acting head of St. Teilo's, said: 'This really is a fantastic effort which could not have been achieved without all the huge help and support from parents, friends, staff and businesses of Tenby. The project also benefited from generous match-funding from Santander and Barclay's. It's going to be a great asset for the school, enabling young pupils to develop their spatial awareness, balance, control and co-ordination in a safe and fun environment."
As well as the gala dinner and grand raffle, other fundraising activities included 'More than a Marathon' bike ride by the staff, as well as various raffles organised by the children and the annual Christmas fayre.
The work will be complete and ready for pupils by September 2015.
Mrs. Blake, Class 1 teacher, added: "The children of Class 1 are really excited about their new playground and can't wait for September to test it out! We are so grateful for the efforts of the Friends of St. Teilo's in making this happen."
The school eagerly looks forward to Phase 2 which will include the enhancement of the main playground.
