THE art exhibition, The Art of Water/Celfyddyd Dwr by the Royal Watercolour Society of Wales, will be officially opened by Andrea Kelland tonight (Friday) at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery.

Andrea, currently vice-president of the society, has been a member of the society for a number of years and has works exhibited in the exhibition.

The society was formed in 1959, holding its first exhibition in the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff, later moving it to the Glynn Vivian Gallery in Swansea. Amongst the artists invited to exhibit at this first show were Kyffin Williams, Arthur Giardelli and Ray Howard-Jones. Since that time the society has exhibited all over Wales.

In 1990, the Prince of Wales was invited to exhibit some of his lithographs with the society and this was to be the first of several subsequent exhibitions where His Royal Highness exhibited work. In 2007, the Prince of Wales agreed to become its patron, and in 2013, a further honour was bestowed when Her Majesty the Queen agreed that the name should be changed from the Watercolour Society of Wales to the Royal Watercolour Society of Wales.

The exhibition features over 40 works by many of the society's members, including Judy Linnell, Glenn Ibbitson, Peter Cronin, Alan Young, Ruth Sargent, Michelle Scragg and current president Robert Macdonald.

This sales exhibition opens to the public tomorrow (Saturday) and runs until Sunday, June 28. For further details, please contact the museum (01834 842809) or email [email protected]">[email protected]
