Dame Shirley Bassey was the guest of honour at a glittering gala dinner attended by 200 guests at Hensol Castle last week organised by Pembrokeshire-based Princes Gate Spring Water to launch its new children's charity, 'Princes Gate Trust'.

The event was hosted by former Blue Peter presenter Gethin Jones and attended by sporting heroes including Ryan Jones, who is a trustee of the new charity; Jonathan Davies, Shane Williams, Adam Jones and Sean Holley.

David Jones, director for Princes Gate Spring Water, said: "We have a long history of fundraising for a number of charities, but have made the decision to step up our efforts by creating our own trust that will directly support children across Pembrokeshire, Wales and the whole of the UK.

"Our purpose is to transform the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in any way we can. We have already seen the impact of the support we have given so far, but the Princes Gate Trust will take that a step further by having a direct impact on families, helping to making life a little easier and improving the quality of young lives.

"We are passionate about improving the health and lives of children and young people and aim to help by providing grants towards treatment, therapies, equipment and surgery, sometimes involving specialists that can only be found abroad."

Princes Gate Spring Water has raised more than £200,000 over the past decade for charities including Noah's Ark Hospital Children's Charity, The Paul Sartori Foundation, Ty Hafan, the Welsh Guards, Drop4Drop and Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), by organising sporting events, as well as producing bespoke bottles of water with a portion of the proceeds going to charity.

One of the first benefactors of the Princes Gate Trust is Pembrokeshire teenager, Shannon Folena. Shannon was a lively, sporty young girl until a catastrophic car accident in 2014 left her using a wheelchair and unable to speak. The Princes Gate Trust has funded an 'Eye-Gaze' machine - an eye-operated communication and control system which allows Shannon to interact with family, friends and the world around her

Chair of trustees, Samantha Atkinson, said: "The creation of the Princes Gate Trust sees a step-change in our fundraising efforts. We are delighted to have been able to provide Shannon with the 'Eye-Gaze', which has had such a positive impact on her life. We now hope to be able to do much more for many more children who need this kind of life-changing support.

"As we say: Jump in. Join us. Together we'll change lives forever."
