THE Children’s Hospice South West’s popular ‘Santas on the Run’ will return to Launceston this year.
The Post reported earlier in the year that efforts were being made to get the Santa Run back to Launceston. The Santa Run is set to take place in the town on Sunday, December 11, at 11am.
Santas on the Run is a 2km sponsored fun run around Launceston taking in both the town centre and the castle grounds. Santas can run, jog or walk the route and the event is suitable for all ages to take part in, including little ones in buggies.
Dave Gordon, of Launceston, has been working in conjunction with Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) over several months to ensure that this popular festive event takes place again.
The entry system is already up and running with entries being taken online at www.chsw.org.uk/santas
Entries received before October 3, will enjoy an ‘early bird discount’ with full details available now on an event flyer at many local shops and will also be distributed on carnival night, October 8.
Dave told the Post: “I am delighted that this event is returning to Launceston, I have been working on a new flatter course, which will start and finish in the Castle Green. Registration will once again be in the Town Hall, along with a planned Santa’s Grotto where the younger entrants can say hello to Santa on their return, and who knows, he may have a gift for them.
“I have been told that CHSW has already received entries from Launceston, and it would be great to see hundreds of Santas running, jogging or walking around our streets on December 11. CHSW is a great charity and I am confident the people of Launceston will support this wonderful event.”
Kiley Tellam, events fundraiser for CHSW said “We are so excited to bring Santas on the Run back to Launceston this Christmas. It is such a lovely event for the whole family to take part in and really does get everyone into the festive spirit. We hope to see the town full of Santas on December 11, raising money for our special cause.”
Participants are encouraged to raise as much money as possible in sponsorship for CHSW, which runs Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell supporting children who sadly won’t live into adulthood and their families.
All money raised will go towards providing those families with short breaks at Little Harbour where they can make special memories together and have precious time as a family.
