WASTE has been dumped at Davidstow to the dismay of a local PCSO.
PCSO Jowan Annear took to social media last week to say he came across the waste while driving across Davidstow Airfield — he said it is the second time he has personally come across dumped waste up on Davidstow this year.
He said: “Dumping household, industrial and commercial waste illegally is considered a serious criminal offence, (particularly when the materials dumped looks like it could be asbestos, around livestock, as per the picture).
“Flytipping carries a fine of up to £20,000 or an offender can even be sent to prison. It is also an offence to permit flytipping.
“In some instances flytipping can only be associated with dumping waste from vehicles. In such circumstances the owner of the vehicle can also be prosecuted. The police also have the power to seize vehicles for flytipping.”
He advised anyone who comes across waste that they believe has been illegally dumped to report it online via www.cornwall.gov.uk/report-fly-tipping/
PCSO Annear added: “Make a note of the time, date and its exact location. Visibly try to work out what has been dumped (any materials etc.) but do not touch or move the rubble or attempt to clear the waste yourself — it may contain broken glass, syringes, asbestos etc.
“If you see someone in the act of flytipping please report it to the police via 999 or make a note of how many people are involved and a brief description of what they look like, what has been tipped, details of any vehicles involved including make colour and registration number where possible
“If you are considering flytipping yourself, here is a convenient list of all waste disposal sites and recycling centres across Cornwall where you can go instead www.cornwall.gov.uk/environment-and-planning/recycling-rubbish-and-waste/household-waste-and-recycling-centres/
“Please don’t allow the actions of an extreme minority spoil our countryside it for the majority and the livestock that live there.”
