POLICE are warning businesses in East Cornwall to be wary following a number of recent burglaries to business premises.

Safes have been specifically targeted at business premises in the Bodmin, Newquay and St Austell areas. These are under active investigation but early indications suggest that a degree of planning was involved in these incidents.

Although no burglaries of this type have occurred in the Launceston Sector — Launceston, Callington, Bude and Camelford areas — police are reminding all businesses who may have a safe on their premises to ensure that appropriate security measures are in place.

Police advise: That the safe is kept locked with access restricted to the minimum number of staff; that any keys or combination to the safe are stored separately from the safe; the safe itself is secured to either the floor or solid wall.

If you see suspicious activity around business premises, call 101 immediately, or 999 if you suspect a crime is in progress.
