Billy the Boots (Cornwall Council's walking mascot) made an appearance at Stratton on Monday to encourage families to leave their cars at home and walk to school, as part of the county-wide Walk to School Week activities. The number of children travelling to school; by car has doubled in the last 20 years, and this week-long campaign hopes to reverse this trend. Billy the Boots aimed to travel from Stratton to Sennen, by sustainable transport, visiting a total of 26 schools en route. To launch the week, the travel awareness team with Billy the Boots met walkers as they arrived at Stratton Primary School at 8.30am. The team then delivered an assembly to drum up enthusiasm amongst the staff and children before Billy cut a ribbon to signal the start of his journey, beginning with a stroll along the path which links Stratton to Bude. Later that day, Billy the Boots also took part in a 'meet and greet' in the playground at Bude Junior and Infants School.
